Tibetan Heart Yoga with Alan Dickson
All Levels – Booking Required

Booking Required
6.30am – 8.00am
£8

Tibetan Heart Yoga is a yoga of the Gelukpa tradition of the Dalai lamas and includes a number of asanas unique to this practice, while centering on the cultivation of a loving heart through working directly with the emotions. The desire is that we nurture an attitude that becomes our all day meditation or 24hr Yoga and this in turn opens us to a more enlightened experience of life itself. The practice makes use of asana-pranayama, bandha’s and dhristi to bring a more subtle understanding of movement, awareness and breath. It is this awareness and connection to our higher self that becomes our moving meditation and understanding that asana is our practice of kindness, one that demands more focus and less effort. Each class includes opening and closing meditation.

About Alan
Alan’s experience as a teacher has led him to share practice with people of all ages and levels of ability. This ranges from working with the public on behalf of studios, clubs and leisure facilities in the Glasgow and Lanarkshire area’s and also with individual fitness professionals and other Yoga teachers. His most notable appointment being to administer a sports specific flexibility routine for the senior level players of Glasgow Rangers Football Club. Currently he is studying Sports Coaching in the Outdoors and wishes to see a traditional approach to Yoga complimented through the continual development of sports related science. It is his understanding that asana should be discovered by finding the easiest and most natural way with which to make use of the body and as a result of finding this functional approach, then create the foundations for a strong practice.Although teaching this class at a level suited to those with no previous experience of the Ashtanga system, Alan would also like to invite students at a more advanced level to this session, as a way of revisiting the basic principles of practice, in the hope that they may deepen their understanding of what it truly means to practice Yoga.

Pregnancy Yoga – with Alanna Dearden
From 12 Weeks – Full Term

6pm – 7:15pm

This pregnancy yoga class aims to support women to connect to their innate birthing wisdom through gentle yoga postures, movement, breath awareness and relaxation.

Yoga can help alleviate many common ailments in pregnancy such as back ache, heart burn, swelling of the joints and anxiety. Become familiar with breath work and mindful movement and explore how you can use the practice to meet the natural emotional and physical demands and fluctuations of pregnancy.

Yoga postures help to keep the body strong, yet supple, open and grounded. Breath awareness helps to keep the mind focused and calm. Whilst there can be no guarantee of the ‘desired’ birthing outcome, the practice can help women prepare for labour and birth in a positive, gentle and accepting way through the development of equanimity.

About Alanna

Alanna gained a BA (Hons) degree in Psychology in 1999, and went on to have her first experiences of yoga and meditation practice whilst backpacking through India and Nepal in 2001. On settling in Glasgow she was fortunate to discover June Mitchell’s Ashtanga class at the Chi Yoga Centre, and was instantly drawn to this dynamic, graceful practice.

Alanna has 10 years experience of working in social care; in the fields of mental health and homelessness. Throughout her working life she has undergone extensive mind-body related training. This training ranges from, working with trauma and mental distress, supporting recovery within mental health services to mindfulness based interventions, including undergoing a 7 day professional training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in Mind-Body Medicine led by Jon Kabat-Zinn PhD & Saki Santorelli EdD, MA.

In 2009 she qualified as a Yoga Alliance accredited teacher under the tuition of June Mitchell and Julie Hanson of CYS, and continues to remain a student of yoga.

Yoga has allowed Alanna to become more deeply connected to life, far reaching beyond the mat. The practice offers her a more meaningful way of being in the world, which allows daily life to be more grounding, enriching and joyful. The transformative nature of regular yoga practice continues to inspire Alanna to create an environment for others to learn from their own unique experience of yoga.

“Having been deeply moved by my personal experiences of yoga, it is with heartfelt gratitude that I am in a position to now share the teachings of yoga with others. It is an honour to witness how yoga continues to benefit humanity.”

Alanna teaches Ashtanga Yoga for beginners and Yoga for Pregnancy at Yoga Healing Glasgow.

Hatha Yoga with Rox – followed by Meditation (optional)

All Levels – Beginners Welcome

6.45pm – 8.15pm
Drop in

About Class:
  • Hatha Yoga, Meditation & Pranayama 6:45pm-8:15pm
Drop in £8 / £6 students.  Block booking £40 for 6 classes (valid for 8 weeks)
Beginners are Always Welcome. It is not important to be flexible, strong, or fit, what is important is to recognise your own starting point, to accept that and then proceed from there.
What to expect in a class:
  • Yoga asana – calm class – a moving meditation – focusing your mind into your body, noticing what your body needs, how it feels, encouraging you to first find your foundation and centre expressing from here, connecting and strengthening the core, linking breath and body to move dynamically in asana, sometimes remaining still within your posture, aiming to allow the body to open and the mind to find stillness. I encourage you to tune in to your own body and to keep your mind focused as this is the essential element of yoga practice – without awareness there is no yoga.
  • Sankalpa - Setting intentions or affirmations at the beginning of the practice.
  • Sound - classes are sometimes infused with simple sounds to help to focus the mind, direct the breath and remove layers of conditioning, taking us on a spiritual journey of awakening.
  • Pranayama – breathing exercises to help calm the mind, focus and remove impurities in the body.
  • Meditation – seated mindfulness practices – focusing on the heart, guided visualisations, or guided relaxation.
  • Seasons - We will use our Yoga Practice to acknowledge, tune into and celebrate the ‘wheel of the year’ as each season changes; marking the solstices and equinoxes.

Sudent review:
“I have tried several yoga classes before and each time I gave up. I started to attend Rox’s yoga class. This time it was different. I have been following her since. Her teaching style is natural and flexible. She keeps telling us to listen to our body and combine the physical exercise and relaxation practice together. After an hour’s yoga, I feel my energy has increased and all the stiffness and muscle tension I have noticed at the beginning of the class magically disappears. When I study psychology, I understand that Yoga has been widely accepted as an alternative stress management technique by the scientific world. I enjoy it now. All thanks to Rox!” (WEIQING)
