Weekly Classes

 22 Mansfield Street – Studio 7 – Partick

‘Breathe and all will be revealed, love and all will be healed. This is Yoga.’ Sean Corne

Our teachers and their weekly classes form the co-operative that is Yoga Healing Glasgow. We share the active role of  passing on the teachings and peaceful benefits of yoga to all who choose to come. Collectively we are stronger and in doing this, collectively we see greater change.

‘If you think you’re too small to have an impact, you’ve never been to bed with a mosquito.’ Anita Roddick

Each of us have been trained under the teachings of Classical Hatha Raja Yoga, which in simple terms covers yoga postures, breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation techniques. Most types of Yoga that you read about these days – Iyengar, Ashtanga, Bikram, Yoga Flow – all come from this tradition.

At Yoga Healing Glasgow there is a similarity in the foundations of our teachings, yet our yoga journeys have each been different,  influencing our personal expression of teaching.

‘There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth, not going all the way, and not starting.’ Buddha

Here you will find an outline of the different classes that we teach on a weekly basis (monthly where clearly noted). If you would like to read more about us, please go to Our Teachers.

Some students like to bring their own mat, but we do provide eco-friendly yoga mats, blocks, blankets and equipment free of charge for all our classes.

Classes are practised bare-foot, and we recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing that is easy to move around in. It’s also worth taking some water to hydrate after class.

Stuck on what class to choose, please contact Anthea on 07809 699568 or at anthea@yogahealingglasgow.com

When we are faced with challenges, emotional or practical, they can sit unprocessed in our bodies, putting strain on every part of our physical, mental and emotional being. Tiredness, chronic pain, auto-immune disorders, depression and anxiety can follow, as the body tries to shut-down for rest-bite in its innate response to try and repair.

Restorative Yoga is for everyone, of any age, maybe you’re young, and have been off work sick long term, unemployed, retired, or just feeling below par and want some restorative time to help old stresses, old aches and pains and give yourself a tonic to support your recovery.

Next block : 21st April

6 Week course £49.50

(Students can join mid block if spaces available* for £9 x remaining number of classes)

This is a general Hatha class, so we shall be working with a complete Yoga practice. We will begin with simple warm up exercises specifically chosen to help release tension in neck, shoulders and spine to help the energy flow more easily, then sun salutations and asanas to strengthen and purify the body. We hold the posture for a little bit of time to focus the mind into the breath and flow within. We finish with either meditation or pranayama and then a full relaxation. In this intermediate class there is an expectation that the students have a foundation of Yoga practice already (practicing for at least 6 months continuously).

Marit Griffith is presently on Maternity leave and in her absence this class is taught by Anthea.

Pregnancy Yoga with Alanna Dearden

From 14 Weeks thru to Full Term

Drop In ‘no need to call in advance’ £9

This Yoga for Pregnancy class helps to support women to connect to their innate birthing wisdom through gentle yoga postures, movement, breath awareness and relaxation. Pregnancy can bring a wide range of emotions and being acknowledged by other women who are having similar experiences during pregnancy can be of great support. The sangha or community built within the group during this time can have a lasting impression after baby arrives and motherhood begins.
Yoga can promote a feeling of well being during pregnancy and alleviate many common ailments such as back ache, heart burn, swelling of the joints and anxiety. Become familiar with breath work and mindful movement and explore how you can use the practice to meet the natural emotional and physical demands and fluctuations of pregnancy.
Yoga postures help to keep the body strong yet supple, open and grounded.
Breath awareness helps to keep the mind focused and calm. Whilst there can be no guarantee of the ‘desired’ birthing experience, the practice can help women prepare for labour and birth in a positive, gentle and accepting way through equanimity.

Alanna’s class will finish at the end of May as she is going on Maternity Leave. At this time there is the option to carry on in any of the Restorative Yoga Classes that run, such as Sarah’s class on Wednesday evenings.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with Alanna Dearden

All Levels (inc Beginners) – Drop in ‘no need to call in advance’

image

£9 drop in ‘no need to call in advance to book’

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic, active form of yoga practice that builds heat and strength in the body. The asana’s (postures) are set within a specific flowing sequence that develops a balance of flexibility, strength and muscle tone in the musculoskeletal system. There is a detoxifying affect within the digestive and lymphatic systems giving the internal organs a workout too!
The breath is synchronized to movement which has an energising affect on the mind and body. The rhythmical tone of the practice has a focusing affect on the mind inviting a deeper meditative exploration. An overall feeling of balance and calm is often reported by regular practitioners. The challenging nature of the practice can often help practitioners to manage stress and invite balance to challenging situations when ‘off the mat’. With regular practice students develop a familiarity with the sequence. Discipline and confidence naturally grow and there is a strong invitation to start and maintain self practice at home. Self practice deeply enriches the quality of life and helps us to make healthy decisions and form new healthy habits that serve us well.

Alanna’s class will finish at the end of May as she is going on Maternity Leave. We will be starting new Vinyasa Classes soon. Please get in touch at anthea@yogahealingglasgow.com if you would like to join the class list.
