Sacred Sound Therapy with Fiona McLaren Sacred Sound therapy is the use of various sound ‘tools’ to re-balance the body’s energies on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level to promote health and well-being. The sound tools are generally used by people from indigenous tribes e.g. Native American Indians and Aborigines, basically people who lived by the land and the laws of nature. This knowledge and understanding was adhered to in the making of the Sacred Sound tools, which, I believe, contain pureness of sound and intention. People all around the world have used sound in rituals, ceremonies, meditations and healing for centuries. However, it is not only Sacred Sound tools that have been created that are used. The voice, in toning and the use of mantras can also be incorporated into a therapy session. ‘Tools’ include: crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, Tibetan bell, tingsha, shakers, ocean drum, Native American drum and rattle, didgeridoo, rain stick and thunder shaker. Thomas practices Hypnotherapy and Reiki, two complementary therapies which can harness the connection between body and mind and allow us to access our own inherent abilities for healing and self development and lead to more satisfying and fulfilling lives.

Prior to becoming a psychotherapist/hypnotherapist, Thomas worked with social work services and community education for over 30 years in Glasgow as a community worker. During this time he also became attuned to allow him to practice Reiki. His work as a community worker involved working with deprived communities, assisting local people to identify their communities’ issues and concerns and to help them to tackle these with their own resources, skills and efforts. When offered voluntary redundancy in 2006, it seemed appropriate that he should retrain in the psychotherapy/hypnotherapy field as there are many similarities with his previous work.

Thomas trained with the well-known National School of Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy, qualifying with distinction in 2007. He has been a Reiki practitioner since 2004.

He has helped clients with issues regarding self-esteem, phobias, mild depression, weight loss, exam nerves, pain-relief and has assisted clients to a more gentle and less painful birthing experience through HypnoBirthing.
